Real Life Stories

Lessons from the ICU: A Story of Resilience and Finding Purpose

I tell my story because someone out there is being told they can’t, and they need proof that they can. I want people to see that the doctor’s prognosis is not your destiny. The fight in you matters more than the odds against you..

I also tell it because recovery isn’t just about the body- (yes I had to learn everything from walking to breathing on my own all over again , which sounded like climbing Mount Everest !) During recovery you need to build mindset of a warrior , the resiliency overcoming adversities ,and use tools you never knew existed

If my story lights a spark in someone, or helps them find the next step forward, then it’s worth sharing every single damn time.

For a deeper dive into my journey—from the moment I fell ill to waking up after 55 days in a coma, and the mental battles that followed—I sat down with Casey Ellen and Tony Chamberlain on their podcast “Sitting Tall.”

In this candid conversation, I discuss everything from the physical challenges, addiction and withdrawal struggles, to how mindset and support systems played a crucial role in my recovery.
